Lifelong Equestrian and Skilled Veterinarian

Our licensed veterinarian at Rising Sun Equine Clinic has a long history of caring for horses. Ask and she will happily admit she was a horse-crazy child. By the age of 13, she had her first horse, a green 3-year-old Saddlebred. Enjoying every aspect of training, she pursued her first job helping in a pony ring and guiding trail rides. She also worked as groom in a large show stable and started young horses prior to fulfilling her dream of going to veterinary school.

After earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Wisconsin in 1991, Dr. Pasteur promptly opened an equine-exclusive practice near Green Bay. Her mission was to provide the best possible care by keeping up-to-date with innovative medical techniques. Dr. Pasteur’s continuing education led her down the path to launching Rising Sun Equine Clinic in Florida.

Founder of Rising Sun Equine Clinic

In 1997, Dr. Pasteur traveled to Florida for an international veterinary course for Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA) at the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Serendipitously, while completing the CVA coursework in the Tampa area, she discovered nearby Ocala, The Horse Capitol of the World.

Amazed by the powerful results of acupuncture and captivated by the beauty of Ocala’s landscape and equine culture, Dr. Pasteur sold her conventional practice in Wisconsin and moved to sunny Florida in 1999 to open Rising Sun Equine Clinic LLC.

Dr. Pasteur strives to bring out the best in her patients and herself through education and leadership. In 2003, she began teaching acupuncture at The Chi Institute, a leading education provider located nearby in Reddick. She completed training at the International School of Equine Osteopathy in 2004 and earned certification in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy through the Healing Oasis in 2010. With expanding expertise and international recognitions, Dr. Pasteur advanced in 2017 to earn a master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).

With decades of providing veterinary medicine, plus the addition of acupuncture and spinal manipulation therapies, Dr. Pasteur helps to improve the health of horses in the Ocala area as well as horses from Reddick, Summerfield, Morriston, Gainesville, and other towns across the United States.

Educator, International Speaker, and Competitor

Uniquely, Dr. Pasteur created a spinal manipulation course for veterinarians called Pasteur Equine Learning Institute (PELI) in 2011, which later merged with the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute (IVMI) to provide comprehensive training for licensed veterinarians through a Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner Program (CVMMP). Dr. Pasteur’s teachings also include biomechanics and anatomy. A leader in her field, she has lectured at many international veterinary conferences on spinal manipulation and acupuncture. In addition to speaking, Dr. Pasteur has written book chapters and comprehensive articles on the equine athlete.

Those in the equine communities also appreciate Dr. Pasteur for her love and knowledge of the equestrian lifestyle. As a competitor, Dr. Pasteur has shown saddle seat, western pleasure, reining, and dressage. She has earned United States Dressage Federation (USDF) bronze, silver, and gold medals. With her horse Amica, she proudly became the #1 Hanoverian in the nation at AA Grand Prix.
